This one showed up in the mail the other day and my 6-year old son took it from my hands and immediately started watching it.  If HIS opinion matters, he did not STOP watching until the entire first disc was done.  The only thing that kept him from instantly watching the entire second disc was a massive water ballon fight in our cul de sac.  However, once THAT was done and our driveway was saved from a perceived treacherous onslaught, he came right back in and proceeded to disc 2.  He has watched BOTH disc multiple times now and we have both been thoroughly entertained.  I think it is safe to say that I know WHO he wants to be for Halloween this year…

Green Lantern: The Animated Series — Rise of the Red Lanterns (Season 1 Part 1) follows Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps on a treacherous journey through deep space. As Earth’s Green Lantern, Hal must face down an invasion from the villainous Red Lantern Corps, who will stop at nothing to destroy and silence the Green Lantern Corps forever. Joined by his former drill sergeant Kilowog, and several all-new heroes, Hal brings the cosmic battle against the forces of evil to the far reaches of the galaxy. Equipped with a new squad and new spacecraft, The Inceptor, Hal and the team set out to protect the universe — and the Green Lantern Corps itself!

Green Lantern: The Animated Series has really taken us into a realm we hadn’t explored before: our first completely CG-animated series,” enthuses Sam Register, Executive Vice President, Creative Affairs, at Warner Bros. Animation. “Like Teen Titans and Batman: The Animated Series, it’s an incredible, groundbreaking action series, combining the legendary instincts of Emmy®-winning executive producer Bruce Timm and the incredible artistry of WBA’s CG animators. It’s a beautifully rendered, epic space adventure with a scale that’s simply breathtaking.

With the release of the live-action movie last summer and the wildly popular Cartoon Network series, Green Lantern mania is at an all-time high,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Vice President of Family and Animation Marketing and Partner Brands. “Warner Bros. Animation is known for creating outstanding animated series, and we are thrilled to be able to bring these new super hero adventures to DVD.”

Executive produced by Sam Register (Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Ben 10), and Bruce Timm, Green Lantern: The Animated Series is produced by Giancarlo Volpe (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and Jim Krieg (Ben 10: Alien Swarm). Based upon the popular DC Comics character, the series features the voice talents of Josh Keaton as Hal Jordan, Jason Spisak as Razer, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kilowog and Grey DeLisle as Aya. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, Green Lantern: The Animated Series airs Saturdays at 10 a.m. (ET/PT) as part of Cartoon Network’s DC Nation programming block.

Green Lantern: The Animated Series — Rise of the Red Lanterns (Season 1 Part 1) includes the following stellar episodes:

1. Beware My Power…Green Lantern’s Light (Part One)
2. Beware My Power…Green Lantern’s Light (Part Two)
3. Razer’s Edge
4. Into the Abyss
5. Heir Apparent
6. Lost Planet
7. Reckoning
8. Fear Itself
9. …In Love and War
10. Regime Change
11. Flight Club
12. Invasion
13. Homecoming

The DVD also includes a four-page preview of the Green Lantern: The Animated Series comic book.  Click HERE to order your copy today and get in on this interstellar action.

Watch This Awesome Version Of Batman & Catwoman Battling Bane In 1930′s Shanghai

If you are like BLURPPY you can never get enough Batman.  Take today for instance.  I am sitting at my computer hitting ‘REFRESH’ a million times in the hope of getting the JC Richard’s Batcave print from Mondo that we wrote about earlier this week.  Now comes this fresh new take on the Caped Crusader from Wolf Smoke Studio in Shanghai.

In their version Batman and Catwoman work together to take down Bane with the setting being 1930′s Shanghai. The duo was cool in The Dark Knight Rises and it is cool in this animation. Wolf Smoke Studio has created this animated short for Cartoon Network’s DC Nation block, a three-part short series called, “Batman of Shanghai,”.  W.S.S. stepped outside the norm on this one and gave Batman some mystic powers, like the ability to turn into a swarm of bats for instance.  Believe it or not, it comes across really cool.

Not to be outdone, Catwoman is deadlier than ever with her whip and impressive karate skills.  Oh…and Bane is a hulking mass of destruction trying to retrieve the ‘Scroll of Destiny‘ and letting NOTHING get in his way.  (Is it me or does the Scroll of Destiny sound like something from Kung Fu Panda?)  Anyhow, check out the four minute short below and let us know what you think.

See, we told you Bane was a hulking mass of destruction.

The image perfectly conveys how amazing the show is and is a must for fans who are rabid for all things Adventure Time.

megamanflatHere is what Sam had to say about the project. “The Wheel of Adventure” came about through my desire to continue a rose window motif I’ve been playing around with the last few years (see Mega Man piece above) I always find this motif fitting to create these fun homages to things I regard with such reverence. The show is surreal, fun and I wanted to incorporate all the crazy main characters and their different worlds all in one image. Thanks to Mighty Fine and Cartoon Network for the chance.”

The Grand Prize winner is Marcel Ramos of Long Beach, California. Marcel created the winning character named Sunny.  A travelling Collector of Ooo’s Rarest Artifacts, Sunny uses The Lantern of Infinite Treasures as a Compass.  Sunny explores the vast Land of Ooo on his own, which makes him a little shy and timid.

“The Adventure Time community has an amazing number of hugely talented artists so narrowing it down to one winner to put into the game was a very difficult task,” said Matt Scott, CEO of Little Orbit. “We were very impressed with not only the art talent, but the creativity and thought that went into the backstories of these characters, and how well so many of them would fit into the Land of Ooo.”

When Cartoon Network announced that their animated, fan-favorite series, Adventure Time would be coming to an end after season 9 in 2018, a collective gasp arose from the ether of Geekdom.  Series creator, and Guru of The Land of Ooo, Pendleton Ward had this to say:

adventure-time-creator-pendleton-ward

“Adventure Time was a passion project for the people on the crew who poured their heart into the art and stories. We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives and make a show that was personal to us and that had jokes, too! I’m really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It’s a special thing, I think.”

However, when they also announced that season six of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series was coming to Blu-ray and DVD on October 11th, those same fans rejoiced and screamed “Oh…MY…GLOB!.”
